At L&F, we believe in slow fashion and its benefits not just on the environment but for the community as well. With our in-house design and production team and our network of Australian manufacturers, many of which are local to us on the Gold Coast, we are seeking to limit our use of international freight and shipping of goods to reduce our carbon footprint. In eschewing mass production, our product releases are capped to sustainable targets that will sell through and not languish as excess or waste stock. We’ve also introduced a Zero Waste collection that enables customers to put to good use samples or garments with minor flaws that would otherwise end up as landfill. The nature of our business does require a certain amount of packaging materials to secure the safe arrival of L&F garments to our customers. In response to this, we have actively sought compostable postage bags and recycled packaging, and we are continually reviewing the sustainable options in this area.

The fabrics we use for our garments have been selected in line with our own sustainability framework, which considers elements such as environmentally friendly production and/or longevity of wear. With 85% of clothing ending up in landfill each year (UNECE 2018), we are passionate about creating garments that can carry on for two, three or even four life cycles through our successful circular economy.
Made in Australia and where possible, local to our head office on the Gold Coast, we have established lasting relationships with our manufacturers. As well as being able to dispatch to and collect from them directly with minimum handling and packaging required, we can also be confident in the quality of working conditions for all the people involved in making L&F products. We reap the benefits of a transparent production process too, which allows us to monitor production carefully every step of the way. From design and cutting and on to construction, we can address issues quickly, effectively and with minimum waste as a result.
While we are passionate about fashion and our product, we believe in making a difference beyond business. Fundamental to L&Fs values is our vision to empower women to change our world by changing their own, and we work to amplify and elevate charitable causes throughout the year. Just some of the charities that we have and also regularly contribute to are: Rize Up - domestic violence support and awareness, Taryn Brumfit’s Body Image Movement, The Sanctuary - domestic violence shelters, Quota International, Walk With Us – helping tackle homelessness on the Gold Coast, the Smith Family and Pink Elephant’s miscarriage support services.
Empowering women to enable change is central to our brand values and consequently we have a strongly female workforce. 98% of our team are women of various nationalities and ethnic backgrounds. Throughout our manufacturing chain too, we are confident in the equal opportunities and inclusivity extended to all those who play a part in constructing our products.
Classically designed, well-made and created with longevity in mind, over 48% of L&F garments enter into a circular economy. We have multiple active and independently run L&F-specific Facebook Resellers groups where garments, regardless of their age, receive a ROI of 50-70% for their sellers. Testament to the quality of our product, we are keen to support the lifecycles of our garments and are continuing to explore ways to support and expand this circular model.
