Electric vehicles do not emit any CO2 during use. But to be truly climate-neutral, we need to eliminate greenhouse gas emissions from all phases of the car’s life cycle and charge them using renewable energy. We'll achieve climate neutrality by holding ourselves accountable to three ambitious goals: 01. Create a truly climate-neutral car by 2030 We’ve set ourselves a moonshot goal: to create a truly climate-neutral car by 2030. We aim to eliminate all emissions from our supply chain, manufacturing processes, and end of life, without relying on offsetting methods like tree-planting. 02. Halve our carbon intensity by 2030 Shifting to renewable energy in all our supply chains is one of our key strategic initiatives for reducing emissions. In addition, we’re phasing out the use of materials that do not have the potential to have a fully decarbonised supply chain in favour of materials that do, while also improving resource efficiency and circularity. 03. Become a climate-neutral company by 2040 Our goal is for all cars that roll out of our factories to be climate neutral. We’ve drawn up a roadmap, which brings together our strategic initiatives and sets out tangible targets for the four five-year periods between now and then

Polestar is working to change how materials are extracted and processed and materials traceability is one of the most important steps in achieving more sustainable production and supply chains. Material tracing enables us to map supply chains, and to take action where we see negative impacts on people or nature. In our traceability program we target materials that are known to have high risks in the extraction and processing connected to environmental pollution, corruption, human rights violation or animal welfare violations, so called risk materials. Our vision is to trace all risk minerals that are used in the production of our cars, and we are working relentlessly on our roadmap to get there. Used in the interior of Polestar 2, WeaveTech is entirely free of animal products. It’s a water-based (not solvent-based), dirt and moisture resistant, modern PVC material inspired by divers’ wetsuits. It was intentionally designed to be distinct from leather, a redefinition of premium materials that has its own identity and characteristics. With the help of chemical experts and design engineers, we were able to reduce the amount of plasticiser down to 1%, compared to an industry standard of 35-45%.
From climate-neutrality to supply chain traceability and sustainability labelling, transparency is a key enabler to making real world progress. By being completely transparent about our methods and progress towards a climate-neutral future, we aim to set a standard that others who want to make similar claims must follow. The Polestar 2 Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) reveals the car’s lifetime carbon footprint, covering emissions from materials production, manufacturing and logistics, use phase, and end of life. The report also includes the methodology we used. We’re fully transparent about all greenhouse gas emissions from cradle to grave, so you can make an informed choice. Using blockchain software supplied by our partners, Circulor, we can accurately track cobalt throughout our entire supply chain. This means its source, and the methods by which it’s extracted, processed and transported, can be regulated. You can find product sustainability declarations on our website and in Polestar spaces. They currently disclose our cars’ cradle-to-gate carbon footprint and traced risk materials. The next step is to develop these declarations by including more sustainability metrics like recycled content.
Polestar 0 project We’ve set ourselves a moonshot goal: to create a truly climate-neutral car by 2030. We aim to eliminate all emissions from our supply chain, manufacturing processes, and end of life, without relying on offsetting methods like tree-planting. The Polestar 0 project is how we reach that goal. It is characterised by innovative and circular design, including batteries with circular life cycles, recycled materials and renewable energy throughout the supply chain. That is why we're looking for partners in the Polestar 0 project. Specifically, those exploring new technologies and solutions in order to create man-made materials without emissions, in the fields of mineral and metals, bio-based chemicals and plastics, and other base materials. At this stage we’re collaborating with partner companies on research into key areas like steel, aluminium, electronics, safety and electric drive. Future project phases will focus on advanced engineering, followed by product development If you believe you can help, then we want to hear from you.
A sustainable future for our planet and everyone on it. We’re standing up for human rights, championing diversity, and insisting on inclusion. The concept of “leave no one behind” from Agenda 2030 is a key driver of human rights, diversity and equality. We fully embrace inclusion by standing up for the rights of vulnerable people in our supply chain, employees in our workplace, and customers who drive our cars. Polestar seeks to champion equality regardless of gender, age, beliefs, or background. We’ve appointed an Inclusion Lead to promote inclusion in all parts of our business. Our People policy puts inclusion at the heart of our strategy and work, to make sure that everything we do has a positive impact.
From design and materials to sourcing and assembly, use and reuse. We’re on our way to making our cars as circular as possible. These five principles inform our car design process: 1. Longevity - We inspect, refurbish, and repair pre-owned Polestar cars, and give them a second life. The renewal process increases their economic accessibility and keeps high quality cars on the roads for longer. 2. Repairability - We’re looking into decreasing repair time and cost by designing easily accessible, adjustable, and detachable parts. 3. Remanufacturing - New cars that end up at dismantling sites due to accidents or other faults aren’t scrapped for recycling. The parts that pass quality assessment are sent for remanufacturing or to workshops as second hand parts. 4. Repurposing - The easier batteries are to disassemble, repair, and remanufacture, the longer their useful life. We’re working with Volvo at regional battery centres to repair or remanufacture batteries, which can then be reused. 5. Recycling - We can’t do it all on our own. We’re steadily building a network of partnerships for closed loop remanufacturing, repair and recycling.
Subject to terms and conditions, if you have changed your mind about purchasing your new Vehicle, you may notify us of your decision to return your Vehicle and we may accept a return. We may, at our sole discretion, accept a return within 7 days of the date your Vehicle was collected by, or delivered to, and there is not more than 500 kilometers on the odometer. You then have a further 3 days to deliver the Vehicle (including all original equipment and any parts and accessories that came with the Vehicle) to the Polestar operator or Polestar Partner’s premises where you originally collected the Vehicle (or other location that we agree to), where a full Vehicle inspection will be completed.
